LIIAR analysis (CLASH) contents page

Language - This contents page uses conventions such as a masthead, headings, splash, banner etc.
The masthead of the contents page is 'CONTENTS' and at the top of the page, this is conventional to a magazine as this enables the audience to know that this is the page that will direct you around the magazine easier, the writing of the text is is in big bold letters and is in a hot pink colour which stands out from the rest of the page. The use of little heading to label each stories and their page number allows the audience to see what stories are in the magazine and where to find them, these headlines are bigger and sometimes in colour to make them standout from the crowd which allows them to grab the audiences attention. The splash of 'Iggy and the stooges' and the picture of Iggy, shows that he is the main story within the magazine. their are banners at the bottom of the page which is informing the audience of the information that is located within, the title of the banner, is 'CLASH REVIEWS', this is in an opposite, very contrasting colour (white against black) and makes the heading stand out and grabs the audiences attention.
His face is not clearly seen and he is not giving eye contact to the audience, this is all part of his 'rockstar' persona. He is on his own in no top and shows that he is a rebellious figure which echos the genre he is representing. the black and white colour scheme within the picture reflects the genre of the magazine and the audience that reads it. The shot used on the front cover is a medium shot, this has been used as this shot is conventional to a magazine. This type of shot is used to show you more of the main image in the front cover, this is to allow you to see what type of clothes the model is wearing, this will give a represention on what type of person this is, as the image is in a black background and is in no top which is white, which creates a strong, typical representation of the rock/indie rock theme.

Ideology -  the colour scheme of the rest of the page is in green, white, pink and black. although these are not all conventional colours to the indie rock genre, the green is used only to emphasise a heading that the magazine is trying to promote, the pink is used to emphasise a heading and also for all of the numbers and the masthead which are two important factors of the page. The use of the light and fluoresent colours emphasise the main image of the page as that is in black and white which are typical indie themed colours, this allows the mainstory and image to stand out and allows to make the rest of the page seperate and informative if the reader is not interestedin the main story.

Institution - Clash is an award-winning (Magazine of the Year – PPA 2008) monthly music magazine bringing originality and independent opinion in a truly unique style.

The producer of the 'CLASH' magazine is a man called John O'Rourke, he has a music magazine called 'john@clashmusic.com' which is a magazine that is a personal magazine that is made for CLASH magazine.

Audience - The audience of the magazine is people who like keeping up with indie rock and other music genres (excluding pop, R&B and other mainstream genres) this because the magazine's main audience are not mainstream lovers, so this magazine provides the music the audience likes and wants to know. The magazine also covers a bit of fashion which help spread their audience to a different audience which is not related to music, this is good because they are appealing and attracting more customers to purchase their magazine.

representation - The main image represents a very non maintream look on life, whereas the rest of the page seems to be out of the music genre in regards to the colour scheme as they are using bright colours which doesnt relate to the audiences persona.
The main image represents the audience of the magazine and how the magazine is trying to represent itself to the world, as the main image has no top on he is seen as a rebellious character, this is echo'd by the fact that his hair is long and messy and he is screaming into the microphone, this relates to the audience by appealing to their non mainstream style.
